Gabasign 800 mg Tablet contains Gabapentin, an anticonvulsant or antiepileptic medication. Gabapentin is commonly used to treat nerve pain and seizures. Each tablet of Gabasign contains 800 mg of gabapentin.
Mechanism of Action:Gabapentin: Although the precise mechanism of action is not fully understood, gabapentin is known to bind to the α2δ subunit of voltage-gated calcium channels in the central nervous system. This binding is believed to inhibit the release of excitatory neurotransmitters, thereby reducing neuronal excitability and helping to control seizures and alleviate neuropathic pain.Uses:Neuropathic Pain: Gabasign 800 mg is often prescribed for the management of neuropathic pain, which is pain caused by nerve damage. Conditions treated with gabapentin include diabetic neuropathy, postherpetic neuralgia (pain following shingles), and other nerve pain conditions.
Epilepsy: Gabapentin is also used as an adjunctive therapy in the treatment of partial seizures (with or without secondary generalization) in adults and children over 12 years of age. It helps control seizures by stabilizing electrical activity in the brain.
Other Off-Label Uses: While not approved for these uses, gabapentin is sometimes used off-label for the management of conditions like restless legs syndrome, fibromyalgia, and anxiety disorders due to its calming effects on the nervous system.
Dosage and Administration:Dosage: The dosage of Gabasign 800 mg is individualized based on the condition being treated, the severity of symptoms, and the patient's response to therapy. For neuropathic pain, the usual starting dose is lower, gradually increasing as needed, often reaching 1800 mg to 3600 mg per day, divided into three doses. For epilepsy, the starting dose and titration depend on the patient's weight and tolerance.
Administration: Gabasign tablets are taken orally, usually three times a day. It can be taken with or without food.
